Royden Hindle

Arbitrator, Construction Adjudicator

LLB (Hons) (Canterbury, 1982)
LLM (Cambridge, 1985)
FAMINZ (Arb) (2002)

I practice as an Arbitrator and Construction Adjudicator, based at Bankside Chambers in Auckland.

I have 40 years’ practice experience as a litigation partner in a major law firm, barrister, Tribunal Chair, mediator, arbitrator, amicus curiae, counsel assisting, adjudicator and teacher.

From 2002 to 2011 I was Chair of the Human Rights Review Tribunal (the Tribunal has power amongst other things to declare primary legislation to be inconsistent with the anti-discrimination rights in the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990).

Over the years I have been involved in cases covering a wide range of topics and industries, including:

Royden Hindle in his office at Bankside Chambers.

In 2021 I was made an Honorary Life Member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ).

Due to pressure of my determinative and adjudication work, I have discontinued my practice as a mediator for the present.

I provide effective and timely determination of disputes using agreed procedures that are proportionate to the issues that need to be decided.

A short form of arbitration agreement adopting the provisions of the Arbitration Act 1996, can be downloaded here (pdf).

I am also available to arbitrate on any of the forms used by the New Zealand Disputes Resolution Centre which can be found here.

If you would like to discuss particular arrangements in any given case please contact me.
